Day 4: Radical Leadership

John 15 : 18-19 NIV “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. But you do not belong to the world, for I have chosen you out of the world.”

Ever heard that popular Christian catch phrase “in the world but not of world”?. Well this verse is where it all came from! I believe as young people trying to live RADICAL lives for Jesus we are called to be leaders.

This will look different for everyone but this verse tells us that we do not belong to the world— we should not look like we belong to the world, there should be something RADICAL about us! We are called to be different, to live lives that are SET APART.

In 1 Peter 2 verse 9 it says “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. You were once not a people, but now you are the people of God”

You are CHOSEN! Gods SPECIAL possession, with a mantle on your life to be light in the darkness. In a society that is only straying further and further from the way God calls us to live, our lives should stand out! A leader knows WHO they are because they know WHOSE they are; they KNOW the word of God and live it out! When others choose to compromise a leader stands firm. When others are self-seeking a leader serves and is selfless. When others cave to peer pressure a leader holds to their convictions. But being different is scary– isn’t it? Our human nature craves acceptance; to just go with the flow, do what everyone else is doing. And sometimes living the Christian life isn’t always popular, in fact in John 15 Jesus warns us that the world will hate us! However, be encouraged that you can hold to the truth that as you honour God with your decisions, He will honour you (1 Samuel 2:30). That when you face opposition that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 57:17), and that where the light is, darkness cannot win (John 1:5). Let your life lead by example, because if not you, then who? And if not now, then when?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, set me apart and give me a heart after your own heart. I pray against any and every lie that the enemy tries to tell me to keep me from living all out for you. Give me strength to stand firm and lead when others choose to follow, and I thank you that I already have victory because of what Jesus did on the cross.
